Award Winning Print Campaign, HBO’s True Blood

An issue of amNewYork on protests over subway service cuts might have passed for a typical day in the Big Apple. But to read the story, and the ads that accompanied it, one might be led to believe that the city that never sleeps was being stalked by vampires.

The eight-page newspaper insert was, of course, a sly wink to TRUEBLOOD, the HBO show about vampires living openly among humans in a small Louisiana town. In its first season, True Blood pumped new life into the somewhat ailing premium cable network, drawing viewers and critical acclaim.

HBO sought to bring to life the show’s premise that vampires live among humans. In that vein, HBO, working with agency Digital Kitchen, got well-known brands to play along.

Rachel Miller was the account manager that closed the deal.

Participating Brands: HBO, Marc Ecko, Harley Davidson, Gillette, Monster, Geico, BMW Mini and amNewYork Newspaper.

Our design spec above is the proposed layout presented, and selected by HBO.

We were especially proud our VAMP logo design, which made it to the printed edition.

Our design was full of faux news stories about vampires, including themes, and issues from the TRUEBLOOD show such as the VRA (Vampire Rights Amendment), and AVL (American Vampire League).
